The Science Bit!
It seems that there is a very real medical phenomenon known as presbycusis or age related hearing loss which, according to The Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy, "begins after the age of 20". It first affects the highest frequencies (18 to 20 kHz) notably in those who have turned 20 years of age". It is possible to generate a high frequency sound that is audible only to teenagers. The Mosquito is capable of generating this high frequency sound without any lasting effects; the frequency will even reach the desired effect if headphones or hoodies are worn!
What do Stepway Offer,and Why?
We offer The Mosquito in a self installation kit that comprises a Timed Push switch, cable, Mosquito, protective cage and Dummy Camera complete with installation instructions and phone/email support.
The reason we offer a timed push switch is to ensure that the Mosquito is not used incorrectly, some installers in the past have had the Mosquito set to run 24 hours a day, which in our opinion could deter genuine (young) shoppers from entering your premises and possibly affect your sales.
The Push Button system should only be used when you feel that your custom/business is suffering due to a collection of youths loitering outside your property. When the Push Button is pressed the Mosquito will run for between 1-15 minutes dependant on your personal requirements. The reason that we include a Dummy CCTV Dome is to allow you to explain to any irate kids upon the detection of The Mosquitoes annoyance is that "the Mosquito is remotely controlled by a Monitoring station and that its operation is not within your control" this method also adds a fear factor to the system as 'they' feel that they are being remotely monitored by a CCTV system.
This kit is primarily aimed at small shops/businesses; however, we do offer similar kits for domestic applications.
